4 out of 5 stars Grandma's review   December 27, 2008
S. Stokes (Idaho, United States)
Our 5-month old grandson has flat-head syndrom. Being a somewhat old-fashioned lay-him-down-on-his-tummy-but-instructed-by-my-very-smart-daughter-in-law,-"that's-not-the-way-we-do-it-now" grandma, I had much internet research to do. I learned two important facts: fewer babies are dying from SIDS because pediatricians tell young parents to place babies on their backs to sleep; this system is the only product available that appears to have reasonable and relyable research to support its use. That said, I purchased the product. I believe that our grandson was comfortable sleeping there. Using the product consistently, his parents alternated head ends everytime that they put him down. We have seen a considerable amount of change in his little head. However, we waited too long. He will need to have a custom made helmet to finish rounding his head. We are encouraged because he will probably be wearing it 23 hours each day for only two months, and then only when he sleeps for probably another six months. There is a very narrow development window for the formation of a baby's skull. Our future grand children will be sleeping on the symmetry sleep system until they are able to roll over on their own. I'm grateful that this product is available. By the way, this is not a pillow but rather a cushioned form designed to position a baby's head during sleep. And, it really doesn't smell like chemicals. I really should have given five stars.

2 out of 5 stars Unfortunately the only product of its kind out there   July 18, 2008

I got this for my three month old son who has a mild case of torticollis and positional plagiocephaly, as this appears to be the only product out there of its kind. It is tilted higher on one side to encourage babies to face the lower side while sleeping. The other sleep positioners on the market are all tilted from top to bottom, and seem geared more for babies with reflux. Essentially this is the only reason I purchased this item and continue to use it - it serves its purpose. It seriously needs some revamping, however. First of all, the cover, while washable, is 100% polyester. It doesn't breathe and my baby's head gets all sweaty, causing the fabric to stink after a couple of days' use. Second, the product is way too short. My baby's legs drape off the end and he's only three months old! Wish there was something better out there.

2 out of 5 stars It Smells Bad!   April 26, 2008

I have not actually used this product yet. Frankly, I'm scared to, because it stinks; literally it smells like chemicals. OK, I just got done letting my son try this product out in my living room. He's 2 months, 1 week old BTW. Anyway, he seemed to think it was comfortable and was in good spirits while on it. However, I really have some reservations about the smell of it, so I decided to not use it tonight. When I picked him up I smelled him and he reeked of the chemicals. So, I changed him and put him to bed. Well, while I was folding clothes and getting his room ready for tonight, he fell asleep. Two minutes later I noticed he was choking like he was gagging for his breath. He has NEVER done this before. We went outside immediately, so he could get his breath back. I am going to keep a close eye on him and alert his doctor. I recommend you get something a little less noxious for your little one. A round head is great and all, however, I like my baby alive and well.

5 out of 5 stars A little pricey but worth it!!   February 14, 2008
