The New Baby Name Survey also includes the origin, meaning, and famous namesakes for each name, as well as a name "profile" written by Bruce Lansky, the #1 name in baby name books. Interesting July 17, 2008 Gadget Girl (Alexandria, VA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a really neat idea for a baby name book. I might be slightly biased because when I flipped to the first page of girl names, under "adorable" - there was my name. Score! I liked how it gave a list of what impressions various names gave people. You might love a name but forget that you'd be sharing it with a famous celebrity, or that it gives people a certain impression. Some of the descriptions for the names were DEAD ON for people I knew. Freaky. I also liked how it did a section of boy & girl names alphabetically, as well as a few sentences on each name. There are a few pages at the back where you jot your favorite boy and girl names. I put one column with my name and one for my husband to fill out, so we can compare our lists. Then there is another page for "top ten" boy names and "top ten" girl names. A fun little read and not so many names that it's exhausting. There are a lot of common names and then some off-the-wall ones. Not an exhaustive list but a good starter book for sure.
