• Scarlet Ladies: Sexy siren names, from Lola and Scarlett to biblical bad girls Salome and Delilah
• Hollywood Squared: Golden Age silver-screen glamour is in, from Ava to Gable, as in Clark
• Thunderbolts: Brisk and bold one-syllable boys’ names like Colt, Cade, Trent, and Stone.
• Vowel Names: As in Addison, Ella, Oliver, and Olivia.

Great book if you are struggling with choosing a name! August 6, 2008 Skatcat (Los Angeles, CA USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I almost didn't pick up this book in the bookstore. I mean, I figure any book that actually gives itself the moniker of "cool" would by default NOT be cool, right? Plus, there are tons of free website with lists of names, so why would I need to buy a book? But I started thumbing through it, showed it to my husband and we decided it was exceptional enough to buy it. The book is grouped into categories, and sure, some of them are a little unusual. We aren't the types to name our kids after a video game character or a supermodel, but some of the other categories were right up our alley. I especially loved the suggestions for taking an ordinary name and tweaking it slightly to make it more unusual or exotic. Great idea! This book also reminded me of names I hadn't thought about in years, many of which I hadn't seen on the "free" websites. All in all, definitely worth checking out if you are stumped for names and want something that not half the other kids in preschool will have.
Not your typical baby name book and that's a good thing July 21, 2008 Joshua (San Francisco, CA USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Out of all of the baby name books that I went through, this was one that stands out. It does have a lot of trendy names in there but that's part of the point of the book. If you're looking for more traditional names, there are tons of books that will do that for you. This one can point you in directions that you might not have thought of and I think that's a good thing. It's easy to read and the organization make it more entertaining to get through (you don't have to go through lists and lists of names in alphabetical order). Don't get me wrong, I think books with lists of names are useful but sometimes sheer quantity is not what you need. On a side note, a great web resource is the Baby Name Wizard. Loved how that site charts the popularity of names over time and puts it into an easy to read format. I got the book by the same guys and it's okay. It just seems like another baby name book with lists of names. The website presents the information in a much better format in my opinion.
good gift idea July 17, 2008 E. A. Dunlap (key largo, florida) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
this book is entertaining, gave as agift to a newly pregnant mom and she enjoyed it.
Witty Satran Strikes Again! July 8, 2008 Jessica Colley (New Jersey) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Just when you think the whole spectrum has been covered... Satran proves us wrong again with her revised and updated cool names. With something for everyone, food for thought, and so much more than just a list of what's hot, Satran has once again proved to be THE authority on baby names. Don't bother looking anywhere else.. Everything you need, want, and more (for all types of parents-to-be) is in this edition.
Really? July 2, 2008 Emster 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
These names are far too trendy. What little girl wants to go through life being called a boys name? That will be cute for about 5 years and then it will seem like shoulder pads or Bill Cosby sweaters. OUTDATED!
