Product Description This soft, lovable plush octopus introduces your child to cause and effect through music! Each of its eight legs creates a different, soothing musical note when pushed or squeezed. Babies love the novelty of the music; older children can try stringing together a melody.
Amazon.com This plush turquoise octopus has become a staple toy for many parents of new infants. Starting at 6 months old, babies can snuggle up to his soft body and pull or chew on the multi-colored knots that comprise the octopus's collar. As babies grow and their hands become a little more dexterous, they'll be able to get them around the octopus's tentacles. Then they can use this toy as it was intendedto make music by squeezing the octopus's legs and hearing different notes. The base of each leg is a different color and parents or older toddlers can follow the included color-coded instructions for playing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star or Mary Had a Little Lamb. Younger babies can simply experiment and develop their auditory senses and fine motor skills. And, parents, that strong scent of vanilla that wafts through the air every time the Octotunes toy is around is not your imaginationit's actually a feature of the toy that makes it more appealing to babies. The Octotunes comes with a soft handle on his head so this musical critter can be carried through the house and beyond. --Cristina Vaamonde

Octotunes are Sour May 29, 2008 R. S. Wenocur We found Octy (he was so cute that we nicknamed him immediately) in a lovely toy shop and bought him for our new grandson, although the toy was not packaged and was a bit heavy. Within days, Octy's notes became sour: either flat or sharp. Months later, we found a shelf of Octotunes toys, also with no wrapping or packaging, at another toy store, but each of them had at least one sour note! Finally, at a third shop, we exchanged Octy for Octy2. Within a week, all his notes became sour, too! We are quite disappointed, since we usually are pleased with LaMaze toys.
I love this toy December 28, 2007 Valerie L. Sponsel (waldorf, MD) This has to be one of my favorite baby toys! It even releases a nice baby smell when played with!
nice toy, strong smell December 13, 2007 E. Hurtt (El Segundo, CA) I like the toy, but it is not my daughter's favorite. I am hoping she will like it more when she is older (she is 1) but the Vanilla smell is really strong and I actually don't like to be in the same room with the smell for so long. I love the weight and size of the toy- it is no piece of junk either, and the musical aspect is really nice. You just never know what kids will like!
great toddler toy April 16, 2007 Ladybug (Pennsylvania, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My son received this when he was 16 months old and loves it almost as much as I have. At first, he seemed disappointed when he'd squeeze the legs and no music would come out like when mommy played with it, so he tried stepping on the legs, and was very pleased when that worked. After more practice, he learned how to squeeze the legs with his hands, and can now make music whenever he wants to. This is such a great toy in so many ways. He'll carry it by the handle on the top of its head, and it's perfectly-sized so the legs don't drag on the floor while he walks from room to room. The handle also makes it easy to get a good grip, so that he can toss it around the room. When it lands, it will spin with the tentacles flying out, which amuses both of us. And when he's laying in his crib, he'll often just stare into the big smiling eyes of the octopus. I do wish that it came with a little booklet with many songs that can be played on the Octotunes. Being somewhat musical myself, I've been able to think of many songs in the key of G that can be played on just the 8 white notes between middle and high C, but it might be frustrating to those without a musical background to figure out what songs to play on the Octotunes, and how.
Looks cool but is now collecting dust March 3, 2007 B. B. (Baltimore, MD) I originally bought this toy because of the Lamaze reputation for great quality and I thought that this toy looked really neat. It's a great concept that each tentacle makes a different sound, but my kids had no interest at all in it. It sits on their shelf unplayed with.
