1 out of 5 stars VERY UNSAFE- SIDE WILL NOT STAY LATCHED - SUFFOCATION CAN OCCUR   November 29, 2008
B Franks (Edmond OK)
We bought this to have when our graddbaby came by to spend the night and have used it a dozen times and he is only 10 months old. When I tried ro change the sheet in thE crib this week -the one side collapsed and since then will not stay latched. We got it to latch and then in the night we heard some commotion and the baby had somehow bumpled the side of the crib and the side collapsed. This is unacceptable and this crib has to be thrown out and is only 9 month old. Safety is the most important thing as a grandparent and now we have to buy a new one today.DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT

1 out of 5 stars dangerous   November 1, 2008

Simplicity Fisher-Price Portable Playard with Electronic Mobile, Bassinet and Changer in Rainforest

i have had this playpen for 2 months now. after taking the changing table off the sides collapse all the time. i use the bassinet part because my baby is only 3 months old and i am afraid she is going to fall out of it! at first i though maybe i had broken it but i called the company to see if their was a recall on them and they said no. but they have had many calls like mine and for me to cut out the 3 panels and send them to them for a refund. i think this is crap. i have a 3 month old i dont really have time to cut it apart and mail it and wait for my money back she'll prolly be a year old before that happens. i love the look of the playpen and she loves the mobil but i cant take the risk. when i take the bassinet out and use the big play pen part it will prolly collasp with her in it!!

1 out of 5 stars Dangerous!!!!! Please Report   October 20, 2008
J. Perin
I agree. It is dangerous. We don't use this item very much because the grandma's both have cribs, However; the last few rare times we used this item, a side collapsed while my daughter was in it. Since it is only used occasionally it's not like it's overused or abused. It only happened when my daughter began to stand and held onto the side. Even still the strength of an 18 pound baby should not be enough to collapse the side. No, she was not trying to climb over the side, she was just holding on, and yes, I put it together right (lifted the middle, made sure the sides snapped, pushed the middle back down, etc). It happened just today at the babysitter's when we put her down for a nap. I tried to call the manufacturer when I got home from work, but they were already closed- will try again tomorrow.

Got a hold of Simplicity today, they offered the standard refund, but had a totally hands off attitude as far as taking responsibility for the safety of the product. The girl that I spoke with acted like it wasn't the responsibility of the company to issue a recall, stated that they don't even know how to go about issuing a recall and that they had no intention of issuing a recall and directed me to the Consumer Products Safety Commission- which I immediately called after getting off the phone with her. The standard number to call took my information and I got the impression that my concern was going to end up in a pile on someone's desk. So, I called the office of the Commissioner (got the number off of their web site) who then directed me to the head of public relations. They seemed highly concerned about my complaint, and wanted as much information as I could provide. By the way, the original Simplicity is out of business, the company had been taken over by someone else, but according to the CPSC the safety problems still remain a concern with the company. If you have one of these products and the sides collapse, please continue to report the problem to both Simplicity and the CPSC until a recall is issued. It should not take a child being seriously injured or killed before a recall is announced to make other parents aware of the dangers of a product.

5 out of 5 stars Sturdy product - great changing table, bassinet and mobile   October 14, 2008
Toodles! (Texas)
I received this playard as a gift in the spring of 2008. It ran $99-$110 at BRU (although they no longer carry it).

Pros: sturdy, mobile has lights & music, nice size changing table (my 18 pounder is still using it), bassinet is sturdy but comfortable, the hanging shelves are ok

Cons: the mobile is a little touchy with the wiring, I wish the battery compartment was in the mobile arm so I didn't have to take the entire thing off (not THAT big of a deal - but still)

We have used this playard with our twins for 6 months and I love it. I would buy another one. We have not experienced the setup problems others have encountered. Once the arms/sides were stuck as we were breaking it down, but, we popped it back up, and started over again, and the arms came down just fine. We take this playard with us each week and have no problem setting up or taking down. The mobile and changing table will not fit in the carry bag - but that is ok with us. We have used this playard/changing-table extensively as we have a multi-story home and this served us as a primary changing station and an alternate sleeping area.

Our girls LOVE the mobile. When they were old enough to actually see it, they were HOOKED on it. They could lay in the playard or changer for a long time and watch the mobile/lights/music. They still like to watch and listen to the mobile.

Once the mobile stopped playing for no reason. We contacted the Simplicity support line. I quickly reached an associate, explained the situation and a new mobile was sent as a replacement. The replacement works just fine.

I recently bought an Evenflo playard as a 2nd one to leave at grandma's. The bassinet was very thin and flimsy and makes me appreciate this playard even more.

I recommend this playard and would purchase it again.

1 out of 5 stars DANGEROUS! Don't buy it!   September 29, 2008
Ana M. Moreno
I bought it for my newborn and it is really dangerous. The sides collapse and if you have your baby on the changing table he/she can fall easily.
Very poor design!
