Amazon.com Review Having spent nearly the last five decades innovating ideas for infants and toddlers, BabyBjörn is consistently tweaking their products to meet parents' high standards of quality, functionality, and safety. So it's no surprise that this BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Original is an international favorite. | | Padded shoulder straps make it perfect for dads on the go. | Knowing the strain that can come with frequently carrying a 26-, 15-, or even 8-pound baby, BabyBjörn developed this carrier with wide, padded shoulder straps that help to evenly distribute baby's weight. (You should ensure that the straps are adjusted correctly each time you put the carrier on, as baby's size changes and other users may have moved them.) Taller or bigger parents may want to consider buying the larger shoulder straps (sold separately) or the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Active that provides adjustable lumbar support. | | When infants face outward, the built-in head support for newborns folds down in front. | A size adjustment buckle allows BabyBjörn's carrier to grow with babyfrom as early as 8 pounds and at least 21 inches (about one week old) to a maximum weight of 25 pounds. Newborns first face inward using the adjustable head support to keep them stable, while older babies face outward with the head support folded down in front of them. The unique design allows the front piece to be easily removed so as not to wake a sound sleeping baby when taking off the carrier. The material is machine-washable cotton and the carrier comes in a variety of colors. Another great feature of BabyBjörn carriers is their straightforward assembly and suggested adjustments based on baby's size and weight. This makes it easy for one person to manage baby and carrier when no one else is available to help.

Spend more time with your baby thanks to the BabyBjorn. View larger | Comfortable Carrying and Easy Adjustment Carrying baby in your arms can be a wonderful bonding experience, but it can also strain the muscles in your back, shoulders and neck. That's why the Original BabyBjorn is designed to evenly distribute baby's weight, resulting in less stress and pressure on your body. When adjusted correctly, the padded shoulder straps allow you to comfortably carry a baby weighing at least eight pounds and 21 inches (about one week old) to a maximum weight of 25 pounds. It's also easy to slip on and buckle the Original BabyBjorn, even without assistance, and all the necessary adjustments can conveniently be made from the front. Supports Growing Babies The Original BabyBjorn offers firm support that holds your baby's legs and arms in a physiologically correct position to protect his or her back and head. When your baby is a little older and has a stronger neck, the neck-rest can be folded down and you can adjust the seat height so that the child can face forward and look around--something curious babies love while you're cooking dinner, cleaning the house, or walking through the neighborhood. The unique design also allows the front piece to be easily removed so as not to wake a sound sleeping baby when you're taking off the carrier. Easy-Care, Eco-Friendly Construction The recipient of several awards, including the 1999 Silver Award and Design of the Decade ISDA, which honors the 36 top products of the decade, this BabyBjorn is both reliable and easy to care for. It can be machine washed separately in warm water, with a gentle, bleach-free detergent, and hung to dry. The Original BabyBjorn is also approved in accordance with the Oeko-Tex Standard 100, class 1, eco-certification, so you can trust that it's safe for baby. About BabyBjorn BabyBjörn AB is a family-owned, Swedish company founded in 1961. Right from the start, BabyBjörn's goal has been to simplify everyday activities for parents and small children by developing innovative products for children up to the age of three. Their products are now used worldwide by millions of parents. BabyBjorn also works closely with pediatricians, a practice that began in Sweden, but now includes an international network of doctors in Germany, France, Sweden and the USA. The company aims to identify those little everyday problems parents face and then to come up with ingenious, long term solutions to them. | |

Easy enough for a guy to figure out! (Father review) August 9, 2008 C. George (Seattle, WA USA) This review is for the father's out there. I will be honest before my daughter was born, I didn't see myself ever strapping one of these things on (because of many factors: Looks, easy of use, etc). When I first used this thing, my wife had to show me because it seemed complicated but as you use it, I slowly got into it and it really is a great thing to free up your hands with a young one! When my daughter was a very young, I even mowed the lawn (with a pushmower, non-gas) and my daughter slept the whole time. The carrier is especially nice when the child turns and faces away from your body. It shifts the weight and the burden of weight better, in my opinion. One issue is the strap adjustment sometimes is hard to get corrected no matter your size and to keep it from rubbing. You will get urp all over this thing so one thing to consider is easy of washing. Other carriers we tried were not as easily washed as this one. With this one, throw in the wash and it is good to go.
relief July 29, 2008 Auntie Claus (seattle, WA) It does free up your hands, but unlike I've heard people claim, I have not found that this product allows me to tie my shoes. It can also be hard to find something 'safe' to do with your hands once you have them. You don't want to sterilize bottle parts in steam with a baby attached to your front. Since you can't lean over with a baby in a front pack, emptying or loading the dishwasher becomes a series of squats exercises. You could try cutting something up for dinner, but you'll be standing at an awkward distance from the counter and won't be able to see what you are cutting. It can be nice for browsing the mall or a bookstore, but it can also be difficult to sit down to look at a book with both of you being comfortable (since the baby's legs will be dangling in front of your thighs). You can't really use your hands to eat a meal, either, or anything hot, without possibly dropping crumbs, dripping soup, or scalding the baby with some other hot consumable. Mostly I found it nice for taking laps around the house when the baby is crying like his diaper is full of broken glass and my arms are spent and I'm looking to change the way his weight is on my back. That alone is worth a lot. Outdoor autumn walks are nice with a maternity jacket zipped up around them.
BabyBjorn Lover July 25, 2008 Nora K. (New York, NY) This product was brand new. The material is amazing. My new baby will love it. It is so durable that I don't have to worry about it snapping or anything of that sort. What suprised me most was the speed in which it was delivered. I am very happy with my product and recommend it to all new moms and dads!
Uncomfortable for parents and unsafe for baby July 17, 2008 Jennifer B. (Minneapolis, MN) The way baby is positioned in this carrier causes spinal compression. I have read that it is not good for baby to be facing out (difficult or impossible for them to block out all of the stimulation, unable to see parent's face to help them interpret situations). I found this carrier to be incredibly uncomfortable- hurt my back and shoulders after 10 minutes of use. We ended up getting an Ergo and are much happier with it. Would recommend using a sling with an infant.
great baby shower gift July 14, 2008 Kathleen Foley (NC) Gave this as a gift at a baby shower, big hit. I own another version of the baby bjorn
