Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Summer Infant Play Safe Play Yard The Summer Infant Play Safe Play Yard is very similar to baby gates. It is a free standing play area which keeps childs in an enclosed area, but is wide enough to provide space to play. Like other baby safety gates which are free standing it provides a wide area of space for child to play in. The play yard is easy to transport as well with a carry handle for easy portability. The Summer Infnat Play Safe Play Yard features six 32 in. wide panels so child doesn't fall out.

Amazon.com Product Reviews

The Summer Infant Secure Surround gate is a convenient way to carve out a playing space inside and outside of the house. The 30-inch tall and 32-inch wide durable plastic panels provide 18.5 square feet of play space. Remove two panels (from six to four) to use as a smaller play area or to partition "off limits" objects around the house. It is easy to assemble, and once set up, the surround gate was sturdy and sound, and the walk-through gate swings both ways for quick access. Fold up the panels and use the handle to carry and transport, just make sure you have a little muscle. --Scott Teal

2 out of 5 stars Doesn't need to be made so poorly - not worth the money   January 5, 2009
Thomas Tomchak (Wheaton, IL USA)
To get right to it, it's crap. it's made very poorly, it can easily be flipped over by a child that is able to stand and lean on one side of it, and it is very easy for a child to reshape and move it across the room. On two occasions our 11 month old twins were able to flip it over on it's side and come close to getting very hurt (there were more stunned then anything, and OK).

While we don't leave them unattended in the gate very often, it has become clear that even a few minutes is a bad idea. Even if we only put one of them in there we have the same problems.

I just can't believe a company would put this out knowing it's so poorly crafted. Personally, I would be ashamed. I do not recommend this product. I know others have had success, but I'm just not happy with it. I can't see it even lasting more then 6 months.

Buy at your own risk!

5 out of 5 stars Offers great flexibility   December 28, 2008
L. Murphy (Concord, CA)
We love the flexibility of this gate. We live in a split-level home with many sets of stairs throughout. Rather than gating off each set of stairs, we bought this playyard to use in our family room where we spend most of our time and it's worked out great. While we're in the room with the baby, we leave the playyard open and extend the panels to just block off a portion of the room so she can't get to all the cords dangling from our desk and other no-no areas. When we need to step out (to use the bathroom, get stuff from the car, etc.), we just close the gate and lock baby inside. She doesn't particularly care to see the walls closing in around her, but she ends up amusing herself just fine with all her toys in it with her. It's been a real lifesaver and we'd defintely recommend it!

4 out of 5 stars Don't ever, ever take this apart!   December 22, 2008
Joely (Virginia)
The quality is good for the price, the one problem I had was taking off one panel to clean it. I have not figured out how to get it back on--it appears to be an impossible design! I may have to resort to duct tape ...

4 out of 5 stars ITS A GREAT GATE EXCEPT FOR THE HANDLE   December 4, 2008
lindsay coleman (washington)
THE HANDLE TO OPEN AND CLOSE THE GATE KEEPS GETTING STUCK, I THINK ITS TO HARD TO OPEN WHEN YOUR IN A HURRY TO GET TO YOUR BABY. OTHER THEN THAT ITS GREAT SO FAR, MY DAUGHTER IS LEARNING TO CRAWL, SO ITS A GREAT WAY TO KEEP HER SAFE WHEN MOMMY HAS TO TAKE A SHOWER ECT... I WISH THERE WAS A WAY TO KEEP IT FROM MOVING WHEN SHE PUSHES OFF THE SIDES, BUT IM SURE THERE IS A WAY TO ANCHOR IT TO THE WALL. OVER ALL IM GLAD I GOT THIS GATE!

4 out of 5 stars Very useful product!   December 2, 2008
L. Blosser (Morgantown, WV)
I purchased this play yard so that I could put my 9 month old in it while I was in the next room doing chores. It is large enough to put many toys in to keep him busy. It is secure as well. We have also used the gate to block off our dining room where our dog is. Our son stands and pushes on the gate which does concern me because it looks as if it might fall over but it has not so it appears to be quite secure. I am very glad I made this purchase and would recommend to others.
