5 out of 5 stars A pleasant surprise   August 12, 2008

This gate is perfect for my 15 month old daughters room. It fits in the door jam and leaves plenty of room to go in and out. I don't like closing her door to keep her out of her room because her room gets to hot. So this is a perfect solution. This is not the kind of gate to use temporarily here or there though.

4 out of 5 stars easy to install   August 9, 2008

I bought 2 of this gates, one came with broken box. You can see right away there's something missing in the box. Both boxes look like returned product, but the gates itself still look good, so I decided to install them. I bought additional 4 y shape mount for the metal railing on my stairs. It ends up work fine with the missing pressure screws. It's very easy to install and work beautifully for my 2 year old.

5 out of 5 stars Great product!   July 1, 2008

This is a great gate. The alarm is great! It let's know if you or someone else has forgotten to close the gate behind them. Plus it locks on the bottom and top.

4 out of 5 stars So far so good   June 23, 2008

We've only had this gate about 10 days, but so far so good. It has a good amount of room to walk through. I can see why some people say that the latch is difficult to use, especially if you try to use your non dominant hand. But it just took me a little practice in the beginning to get the hang of it and now I am fine with it.

The one thing that I don't like though is that the door does not swing open both directions. So if you are on the side that it swings out, you have to step backwards to make room for the gate. Not a huge deal, but is slightly annoying.

We are using the gate to divide off two rooms but will probably move it to use at the bottom of the stairs once we get an extension. I am buying an 8" extension direct from the manufacturer (Kolcraft). It costs $14.99 including shipping. I don't know where else you'd be able to get the extension. I got the phone number from the box. The customer service rep mentioned they also have 4" and 12" extensions, but I didn't ask the price on those.

BTW, we have a 14 month old baby and a 75 lb. dog. The baby is able to pull herself up to standing, on the gate. The gate seems sturdy so far to hold her weight (which is probably about 19 lbs.). She does not try to climb the gate yet. She is able to crawl through the gate fine when it is open, even with the bar. Our dog has never attempted to climb the gate either and he walks through just fine as well.

2 out of 5 stars Difficult to use   June 13, 2008
Picky Shopper (Gainesville, FL)
I returned this item because the latch was extremely difficult to use. It required too much time and attention, was not operable with one hand. I much prefer the Evenflo Simple Step Pressure Gate that we purchased in the past. From now on, I'll stick with that one. It costs about the same and has an extension so that it fits our doorways and allows our cats to squeeze through.
