Please read if you plan on adding extra extensions July 2, 2008 C. Lindsey (Tampa, FL) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The product details for the gate say: *Extra Tall (40") and Includes 2 FREE extensions which fits openings between 28"-42.5" *Will fit any opening up to 53" with optional extensions (sold separately) I didn't pay attention to that second bullet point of a max of 53" (with extra extension) when I ordered the gate along with 3 extra 10" extensions in order to fill a 80" opening. I assumed that it would work. Bad assumption on my part. The included directions clearly state that you can use up to one extension on both sides of the gate, but no more than that. When I put the gate together, I ended up with more than one extension per side (I had to use the 3 extra that I ordered plus a couple of small extensions that came with the gate). This made the barrier (gate plus extensions) unstable as each connection point between extensions has a tiny bit of give. There is enough give that the gate does not open and close properly (if you push against the barrier, the entire barrier will bend and the gate pops open). I feel like the gate with extensions would work great for a space of 53" or less; however, if you have a space greater than 53" this is not the solution for you. I hope this helps.
Keeps the cat out! March 26, 2008 J. Tilonsky (MD) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was a little unsure about whether or not this gate would be worth the slightly higher price, but I'm really glad that I got it. My daughter's bedroom door sticks in the summer and I have to slam my body against it to open it and when I'm laying her down for a nap, that's just not practical. I wanted to be able to leave her door open but I didn't want our cat to be able to get into her room so I needed a gate tall enough to keep her out. Our cat gets into a lot of things and loves to be where she's not supposed to be. This gate is perfect. Right after putting it up (which only took about 5-10 minutes) she went over to the gate and tried to figure out how she could get by and gave up after a few tries. She can't fit between the bars and she definitely isn't even trying to jump over it. She jumps up onto our kitchen counters all the time, so I was worried, but I guess because its such a long drop on the other side, she's afraid to try. We've been using this gate for about a month and its working out great. I love it! Definitely worth the money. I know some people complained about the width of the opening on this gate. I don't mind it too much. It is almost exactly the width of my laundry basket, so its a little awkward bringing the clean clothes into my daughter's room, but that's the only time that the width really bothers me, and I can just lift the basket over the gate. My only complaint really is that sometimes I get agitated by the swing close feature. Like when I'm trying to lug my canister vac into the room, the gate keeps slamming into me. But I really think the pros outweigh the cons. I think I will probably get another one of these gates when my daughter is a little older for the stairs and I might even get the extra wide version for the kitchen.
Fantastic Gate! January 16, 2008 Patty Sweet (Tacoma, WA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I thoroughly reviewed baby gates (mine is for dogs) and chose this one because of the reviews. They were all correct - this is a great gate. I installed it myself without the help of my husband, it's super sturdy and works fantastic. The black color looks beautiful. I would highly recommend this gate.
nice product, terrible shipping October 17, 2007 Barbara W. FOSTER (St. Albans, WV) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
nice gate to prevent pets from entering an area. However, shipping was a nightmare. I ordered two gates from Target. Both left the warehouse in Cincinnati Ohio at the same time for the 250 mile trip to my house in West Virginia. One was there in two days. The other one went somewhere in the midwest for a few days then spent a few more days in San Francisco before finally arriving here 17 days later. Perhaps whoever was in charge of shipping falied geography. Numerous e-mails to the company resulted in no action. So, the gates are very nice, but if you order one, be prepared to wait.....your gate may be a world traveler.
perfect September 4, 2007 rara e (Old Bridge, NJ) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
for use as a doggie gate it's perfect. tight fit in doorway, can't get knocked down, no drilling holes in your walls, and tall enough to contain even a large dog. highly recommended.
