Amazon.com Product Reviews
With so many other hassles to worry about, a gate should be worry-free and easy. Using the simplicity-by-design approach, the Evenflo SimpleStep pressure gate makes cordoning off stairways and rooms easy as cake. The pressure-mounted gate takes 20 minutes to install with no tools needed and is much easier than its wall-anchored counterparts. Once you install the gate, the most difficult part is over. The walk through door employs a squeeze, slide, and swing action that can be done with one hand. The red/green gate indicator tells you when the gate is properly locked. Be sure to measure your doorways before purchasing--the Evenflo gate is made for either 29-inch or 39.5-inch (with the included extension panel) openings, and the pressure mounts give you a tiny bit of slack. The Evenflo SimpleStep pressure gate is 30.5 inches in height, and the manufacturer recommended age use for children is six months to two years. --Scott Teal

With the one-hand Slide-Loc mechanism, you simply squeeze the handle and slide back to open. | Easy to Use and Install The Evenflo SimpleStep Pressure Gate is a sturdy, lightweight metal gate in a neutral color that blends in with any décor. It is 30 inches tall and expands from 29 inches to 39-1/2 inches with the included extension panel. Featuring a a pressure-mounting system, the gate is designed for quick and easy installation: no tools, no permanent hardware to damage your walls. The pressure-mounting system also allows for more versatile installation at stairway banisters or other unusual openings. The gate is just as easy to use as it is to install. It easily opens with a special one-handed "Slide-Loc" mechanism: simply squeeze and slide the handle to open the gate. The gate also swings open, making it much easier for baby-toting parents to use. It then latches shut with a simple push. Super Safety Features The Evenflo SimpleStep Pressure Gate's red/green indicator shows whether the gate is properly locked, to give you additional peace of mind. Its slats are less than three inches apart, which is the recommended spacing for safety. To maximize the gate's safety features, make sure it is installed less than three inches from the floor. It is also recommended for use at the bottom of stairways only; the top of the stairway should be cordoned with a hardware-mounted gate.

Great quality, works as designed October 6, 2008 E. Doherty (Revere, MA USA) I have this gate at the top of the stairs in my house to keep the dogs out of our bedroom area. The gate fits snugly in the doorway and is easy to open and close. Our little puppy is able to squeeze through one part; to prevent this I wrapped some packing tape across the bars. The tape is nearly invisible and prevents the puppy from squeezing through.
Improved our lifestyle October 6, 2008 Ueberblick I can't believe I waited so long to get a walk-thru gate! We've been stepping over a non walk-thru baby gate. This one makes life easy! Not difficult to set up. Just need to adjust the pressure screws to the width of doorway. If you don't check the adjustment, the gate can be pushed open though it appears closed. Just test the gate after you think you have it adjusted til it doesn't pop open when pushed on unless you use the hand latch. Easy one-hand operation. Gate swings both ways. Color and style go well with most households. The bars are more stylish than typical baby gates. We use ours for our husky dog. Life's good!
not for small dogs October 3, 2008 L. Wiebe (Newton, KS USA) I own a "pet gate" similar to this one. One exception, the bars on the "pet gate" are closer spaced, by 1 cm. This doesn't sound much but to a small dog it is a huge difference. I found my dog coming home from work sandwiched between bars and was not able to move forward or backward on her own. With some fancy lift and tilt work I got her unstuck and out but she would have never gotten out by herself. This is a baby gate as it claims it is and may work for larger dogs just fine. I even covered it with pet screen and zip ties and the dog still found an opening in the corner big enough to stick her head through and get stuck... The gate is fine it just didn't work for my situation.
Works OK September 25, 2008 V.G. (Portland, OR) We installed ours at the bottom of the stairs between the banister post and the wall. Even with included extender piece, the screw posts are nearly maxed out. It's still stable enough to prevent our son from climbing the stairs. My main complaint with the unit is that the bottom of my shorts catch on the hinge every time I come down the stairs, and when I do I can hear the drywall breaking down from the torque on the pad.
Great gate for the price!! September 15, 2008 D. Horton (Worcester, United Kingdom) Bought this gate as second to have when we visit the US and I must say we liked it better than the one we have at home. Shame it would cost so much to ship it otherwise we would have shipped it home with us. The lock can be a bit hard to open at first but after the first day we were pros and I could do it with one hand. My husband put it up without too much trauma and it was good and sturdy. The extra extention piece was a nice bonus as so many make you purchase them.
