Product Description Evenflo SimpleEffort Plus Safety Gate with Wall Console The Evenflo SimpleEffort Plus Safety Gate has features which help set it apart from other safety gates on the market. First, it features a motion- sensing night light, which illuminates the safety gate when there is movement. The SimpleEffort safety gate also boasts an exceptional slam-latch closure, which makes locking the safety gate so easy. Simply push the gate and it locks automatically. It unlocks with a simple pull. It is easy to install and is pressure mounted, so it won't require any hardware and won't destroy walls.

Great! October 31, 2008 A. Reynolds We've had this gate at the bottom of our stairs for two years. It has rubbed the paint off of the wall but that didnt really bother me (it is tight against the wall). Also, my son got his leg stuck in it last year when trying to climb over it. He was two. He never tried to climb it again. I figured that would have happened with any gate with vertical bars. That said, we love this gate and would buy it again. It cannot be climbed because of the vertical bars. It is easy to open, even when holding a child. Just remember that it can only be used at the bottom of the stairs, as it doesnt screw into the wall.
Excellent!! October 28, 2008 B. White This gate is a replacement that we purchased. It is wonderful!! If you have your hands full, just push the button on the remote and the gate unlocks for you!! Simple to mount without drilling and anchoring!! We are considering replacing other gates in the house with this one!!
Love my gate! October 17, 2008 P. Andras (Tallahassee, FL) Using this gate to keep my doggies where they're supposed to be....it works great! We love it!!
Huge Liability! An accident waiting to happen! December 17, 2007 Overprotective Mom 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
At first I thought this was an excellent idea because I needed a gate that my other two kids can open and close. Well, the locking mechanism resets everytime one of my cats jumps over or even squeezes in at the side. For those not familiar, when the locking mechanism needs to reset the lock opens and closes in its housing for about 45 seconds! And it's not quiet when it does it, so my baby crawls over as soon as she hears it resetting. It doesn't take 45 seconds for her to get through that gate and over to the stairs! I've changed the batteries many times and it doesn't solve the problem. I will attempt to get a refund from Evenflo, but I won't hold my breath! So, my search continues for a secure gate that my other kids can easily open. Please do not buy this gate unless you have a back-up plan for your stairs or any other hazards your children or pets can get into. Evenflo has a lot of good products, but this is not one of them! If you are looking for something secure but don't have slightly older kids who need access, I highly recommend The First Years' Hands-Free Gate with a pedal. I use it as a barrier for my dogs. I love it!
Good Overall, But... September 15, 2007 Desert Mama (Tucson, AZ) Overall, I'm glad we got this gate (2 of them, actually). We love the hands-free operation, the price is exceptionally good, and the taupe color blends in very well with most home decors. But here's some odd features that are not mentioned in the product description: 1. There is a long delay between the time you unlock the gate (with the remote control) to the time the gate re-locks itself. We have found that when we walk thru the gate, we are standing there waiting, and waiting, and waiting for the gate to re-lock itself so we can close it behind us. As far as I know, this setting cannot be changed. 2. When the gate does re-lock itself, the bolt that shoots out makes an extremely loud "BANG" sound, which wakes our babies up if they are in nearby rooms. 3. Other reviewers are correct about one remote control opening both gates at times, or one remote control opening neither gate at times if you own two gates, like we do. The manual says to stick a paper-clip into a little hole in the gates, which does fix the problem, except we are doing the paper-clip trick every couple of weeks it seems. 4. Occasionally, the gates will go into "learning mode", all on their own, sometimes in the middle of the night. This means they unlock/lock repeatedly, making the loud "BANG" sound over and over, like 10-15 times, until they have worked out whatever issue they are trying to work out. This is a HUGE problem, not just because it will wake us up at night wondering what all the racket is, but also because our toddler is able to walk thru the gates while they are randomly unlocking and locking. I have contacted EvenFlo about these problems, to which a rep responded, "This is not something that I've heard before," so I may take her suggestion and have the gates replaced. As I mentioned up front, we are happy overall with these gates, as we have also had experience with the regular accordian-style manual gates. Hands-free operation can't be beat!
