3 out of 5 stars works well for what it is   August 10, 2008
T. Little (Phoenix, AZ)
Out of the 5 different gates I have tried, I like this one the best for pressure mount. I intended to use this only as a pressure mount, and so I haven't had all the problems other reviewers have posted. One of the other gates I bought was the plastic Safety 1st with the holes in it -- it was the only one available at BRU. By comparison, the solid plastic gate is SIGNiFICANTLY better. I feel this gate is pretty sturdy and has held up well with occasional use for 7 months.

5 out of 5 stars Best Gate I've Owned   January 18, 2008
A. Heathman (Plainfield, IN)
... and I've owned quite a few. I really like this gate. You can have it static in the doorway, or attach a few included parts to make it a swinging gate. I really like how easy it is to use, and how sturdy it is while in place. I never had to worry if my son was going to knock it over.

(At the time of writing this review, the picture Amazon had displayed was a basket. I hope that changes.)

5 out of 5 stars Best Gate for Us   May 4, 2007
V. Scott (Northern California)
This gate is a perfect fit for us especially since our walls aren't perfectly straight (I won't mention the builder...). Anyway, it fits super snug and we don't have a problem needing to readjust it every time we remove it. If you just unlock it, it releases a little but then it readjusts when you lock it in place again. It's so snug and sturdy that I use it at the top of the stairs even though you're supposed to use a hardware mounted gate (bad mommy!).

3 out of 5 stars Not bad but mounts may break   January 28, 2007

We purchased 2 of these when we had our son 18 months ago. One was an open box with no hardware which was fine for a while. But if used in a high traffic area it is much easier to use the hinge mounts. The mounts are made primarily from plastic. OUr top hinge cracked after the stress of toddler has been pulling on it for a couple months. Still holds but i don't think this would be a safe unit for the stairs. This works great as a pet door as well. We keep it about 8 inches off the floor which is low enough for our dog and child, but high enough for our cats to go under.

Also the hand mechanism doesn't seem as smooth operating as it should be, the gears or whatever in one of them don't feel like they are really working right and i ahve to fuss with it a bit more to get it open.

All in all an average gate for medium use.

5 out of 5 stars Love the versatility!   November 26, 2006

True -- as other reviewers have stated, this is not a gate that will swing open unless you use the hardware, which I have not, so I cannot comment on how well that works. As a tension or pressure-mounted gate, I love this item. I have no problems stepping over it -- and I'm only 5' 5"-- so I never found it to be a nuisance. It's easy to use with one hand and snaps into place easily. It's also easy to adjust the size to fit different sized door openings, although that takes two hands. It's light enough that I can carry my 13-month old son on one arm and the gate in the other as I travel from floor to floor.

My 2 year old is learning to sleep in a room by herself so we use the gate at the doorway so that she can call to us from her room without being free to wander into the hallway or onto the stairs. Again, we love the fact that we don't have to damage the molding on the doorframes.

My husband and I are so satisfied with this item that we plan on buying another one.
