When our first child was born we tried not to buy anything we didn't need, and I assumed a baby bathtub was one of those extras. So in the beginning we just bathed baby in the sink, but it really wasn't a one-person job in either the bathroom or the kitchen sinks because one person had to hold the baby up in the sink while the other did the washing. Plus, you have to actually take the time to scrub the sink before putting baby in it, so, being new, overwhelmed, sleep-deprived parents, we often just washed her with a washcloth on the counter . . . until we finally bought this little tub at Target. The baby really liked the tub, particularly because we set it on the bathroom counter and she could see herself in the mirror. The supported slant is great for small babies, because you don't have the hold the baby at all and you can just pour water over their heads and it doesn't get in their eyes. Once our baby started sitting up, avoiding getting water in her eyes while rinsing shampoo was a little harder, because she didn't want to lean back all the way anymore, but she still used this bathtub until she was almost a year old. At that point, she absolutely refused to sit in it, but she had loved it up until then, sitting and playing with her duckies and other water toys. Another thing, there is a plug/drain at the bottom, which is really handy, and the baby will discover it at some point after sitting up. But if you're paying attention, it's pretty easy to make sure the baby doesn't pull it to start draining all of the water out. It is definitely worth the price, and we are glad we bought it. It held up well for the 10+ months we used it. (We bought it when she was about 6 weeks old.) The plastic seat is covered with a thin layer of non-stick foam, which started to show some wear, but was not cracked or peeling. It will probably hold up for another year's use with another child.
