| Customer Reviews:
Fits my needs well, but still needs improvement August 15, 2008 Rachel (southeast USA) I needed a timer for my toddler's time out, and my kitchen timer wasn't cutting it. When just learning numbers, the idea of counting backwards is just too much when one's in time out. I needed something more visual. I had looked at Learning Resources' Time Tracker, but the price... yikes! Especially for something that many find so difficult to program. This looked like a good solution for the price. Pros: - Easy to set (it's just like a kitchen timer) and it goes back to the original time when it stops so you don't have to reset each the time. - My toddler understands stoplights, and the red, yellow, green sequence really helps to see that time-out is drawing to an end. - The timer beeps once as it switches to yellow, giving me and my toddler an audio cue if we happen to be looking elsewhere. - The stand on the back and the fold-down hook for hanging it on the wall are very handy. Cons: - If you want to use the timer for something other than time out, the color pattern is a little strange. For example, if I set it to do chores for 15 minutes and start it, it turns red. It kind of gives me a negative impression about what I'm doing. They suggest in the description to use it for practice time, but I can't imagine that would give a good feeling to a child about sitting down at the piano for 30 minutes. And then, they're done when it turns green, giving the idea of "freedom." - The magnet on the back, though a good idea, is nearly useless. Neither of my timers will stay up on the fridge; they both slide down to the floor. So, it's useless. But it also gets in the way. The battery cover is screwed in with those little tiny screws that you need an eyeglass screwdriver to use. When you get the screwdriver close, it gets pulled onto the magnet and off the screw. Then, when you're trying to screw the cover back in, the screws themselves keep getting stuck to the magnet. Those tiny screws are difficult enough to work with, but add in the magnet and it's very frustrating. - The box and the description say 2 AA batteries, but both my timers actually take 2 AAA batteries. Not a big deal, but frustrating. - And if you care about color/decor, the brown color is kind of a pink-brown and not as neutral as I had hoped. The white is very cute, though.
