great monitor still a bit pricey November 27, 2008 M. Cammeyer (new york city) My primary monitor is the summer infant video monitor. While i have no interference at home (in nyc, shocker) when we travel we find that we get some interference at various places. The worst in Florida. I went out and bought this monitor and there is no interference and it has a better range then any of the other monitors. I temporarily was using the graco audio monitor which was good as well but the range was not as good as the safety 1st. It is also a nice feature that both units can operate on batteries. I am posting this after one night of use but incase anyone is shopping for the holiday i figured i would post. While it is the most expensive monitor it is pretty cool and works well.
Best product of the market for the money November 26, 2008 J. Jensen 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It's packaged well. It has an easy setup. The directions for use are simple and it is easy to use. The daytime video picture is really clear and the night time video works a lot better than I had expected. I really like the zoom feature. I like the green button that flashes on the monitor once it is turned on because its easy to tell if you have the monitor on or off. The safety first that comes on when I want to view video only lasts a second so I really don't feel that it's an issue. I love the fact that it's a secure signal and I'm not seeing into another house. There is no interference whatsoever, I was really surprised on how clear the signal is. I really feel that this monitor is the best product on the market for the money right now. I really like it.
Great monitor and worth the $$ -- wouldn't want to have a little one without it November 17, 2008 Amy I have been using this product for 7 months now and love it!. It is worth every penny we paid. I researched several models and opted to give this one a try even though it was a new product with few reviews to use to help in making my decision. I have listed the pros and cons of my experience using this device: Pros **Great picture quality -- We haven't seen any issues so far with blurry picture, but then again the monitor is directly above my son's crib. I haven't seen a change in the picture when he moves and crawls around inside. **No interference from other wireless devices -- We have quite a few...phones, routers, etc...and use them while the monitor is active. **Automatic, smooth transition from color to night vision **Belt clip is great to keep the monitor close at hand **Volume adjustment is an important feature -- Static from the monitor is sounds almost non-existent during the day. However, at night the sound on the same setting as used during the day is a little annoying when I first put my head on the pillow. (I tend to be a light sleeper though so this might be the issue too.) When the sound is too annoying to alleviate the problem, I turn down the volume to a one or two setting. Doing so allows me to hear my son but not hear the static. **View button works well -- You can check on your child without getting up in the middle of the night. We have found most often that our son is either adjusting during his sleep or making noise to make noise. It's nice to make certain he is okay without getting up to check on him. **Dorel Customer service very helpful -- The view button on the parent unit recently stopped working. Given the timeframe from my date of purchase, it was still under warranty, but I could not return it to the online store from which I purchased it. So I contacted Dorel directly. They were really helpful and only too happy to replace the parent unit for me. I received in a few days. Cons **Battery life -- The longest battery life I have experienced is about 5 hours tops. However, this can quickly be resolved by keeping it connected to the power cord. It's just inconvenient when you're trying to work in other areas of the house. **Interference when using the microware -- If I am using the microwave and the parent unit is on, there is interference if I get it too close. This too is resolved if I keep the unit 10 feet or so away from the microwave. **View button stopped working, but as aforementioned the manufacturer was quick to send me a replacement. Overall I would recommend and have recommended this product to anyone having with a little one. It's worth the money. Even though I did not pay the full retail value, those folks who purchase it now can get a reduced price.
Great product October 5, 2008 J. M. Snyder (NJ) As a VERY panicky new mom I wasn't really into the idea of my baby sleeping away from me, in a different room, but I also needed to be able to eat dinner (or do anything) with my husband while the baby sleeps. This camera adds the security of being able to see my baby in his co-sleeper for the few hours before we go up to bed, or while he naps. I have found it to have great range (we can be in the backyard, though the screen is hard to see outside and in sunlight), and literally no interference from our cell or cordless phones. The night vision is clear but the 'pan and zoom' don't actually pan the camera, but rather the digital range of what the image shows. I still love the feature though, zooming in is key for me. I have come to accept the few seconds it takes to view the image after you hear something and want to look. You can view for 30 seconds and then need to hit 'view' again to see. This feature is not a problem, though I wish I could view for longer. My only complaint is that while the hand-held monitor has re-chargable batteries and can be disconnected often, the camera unit does not. We go through alot of batteries when it is unplugged, but honestly, this is not a real problem compared to how useful the product is. Finally, my overall favorite feature is that it is a closed circuit digital camera, and no one can accidentally 'tune' into our channel like other monitors. That was most important, and we are very pleased. We actually bought a second so we can have two cameras in different rooms so we don't have to move them all the time when our baby falls asleep in different places.
Awesome, just awesome! Easy to use. October 2, 2008 MAC33351 (Fort Lauderdale, FL United States) Ordered this yesterday at about 8pm and it was delivered today at 4pm. All you do is add in the rechargeable batteries, plug the unit in and the two 'see' each-other instantly. This this is idiot proof. I have signal issues in my house as the baby's room is in the interior, rear of the house and a concrete wall divides her part of the house and the master bedroom. Have tried other monitors - had the Sony multi-channel thing and it had horrible coverage, beeped all the time. This monitor works flawlessly and the video is just too cool to have. The picture is great and the monitor is small enough that I can have it on my belt while I do yard work and still have good signal. This is one 'must have' for new parents although this is my second child. The Sony was $140 years ago so this one at $203 is a deal.
