4 out of 5 stars Works good for me   November 27, 2008
afpilot130
We have 2 little ones (1 month old and a 21 month old), so I own 2 sets of these Graco monitors. The first set is the older model without the vibration, and when we found out about kid number 2, we bought this model.

I was initially concerned about interference, running 2 of almost the same model near each other, but when I tested out the compatibility, both worked just fine. Since you can change channels on the nursery units, these models have no problem working in the same area. One nursery unit is in the toddler's room and the other in the infants. They are approximately 20 feet apart in different rooms. The parent units synced up just fine with the correct nursery unit, so I had no issues there. Be advised: You CANNOT use parent units from one set on 2 nursery units at the same time. Meaning, since I already had a set (2 parent units and 1 nursery unit), I wanted to save money by just buying another nursery unit and add it to the already existing set I had. You cannot sync the parent units to BOTH nursery units. It will not work. I already asked Graco about that. Graco already sells a dual nursery set (which I would have bought if I knew we were having 2 kids so close together).

I run a wireless network, wireless phones, and wireless remote controls (Xbox 360) in my house and haven't had any problems with outside interference.

As for distance, I think 2000 feet is a stretch. I've had several instances where the parent unit would go offline searching for a minute, then come back online. Whether those were anomalies or some type of interference, I don't know. The distance from the parent unit and the nursery was maybe 40 feet. However, on the same token, I've taken the parent unit to a neighbor's house (about 500 feet) and it worked fine. So it's wierd. I don't know how Graco tested this, whether they did this on an open field or in a real house. The signal can be affected by the design of the house and materials of the house, so that can degrade the performance.

I also had a couple of instances of "crackling" or static, which either resulted in me either turning off the monitor or changing the channel. As one reviewer had mentioned, having the channel changer on the nursery unit is not a good idea. I don't want to go into my kid's room to change the channel while she is sleeping. The channel changer should go on the parent unit.

The battery life seems standard to me. I want to say they lasted about 1 1/2 - 2 hours when the unit was brand new (I didn't use a stopwatch to time it). I don't use the vibration, so I don't know how much extra that would drain the battery.

The sound is very clear and it is easy to hear my kids. I have had no problems with distortion.

Overall, I am pleased with the product so I gave it 4 stars (there can be some improvements). I've been using the older model for about 2 years now and only had a couple of hiccups. This model has been in use for about a month with no problems, just some of the minor issues I mentioned above. I would recommend this product to parents.

4 out of 5 stars Great monitor...good vibrations.   November 13, 2008

This monitor has worked really well for us. We keep one parent unit downstairs and one in our bedroom upstairs and they are on all the time and charging on the bases. The vibration feature is ok but not as necessary. The sound is amazing and both parent units hold their charge (unlike the other reviews). We use this monitor with the Bebe sounds video monitor so we can see and hear the baby. (The bebe sounds monitor has a great picture but serious static. We turn the volume off on the Bebe sounds monitor and listen with the Graco.)

2 out of 5 stars Poor design   October 28, 2008

This product is poorly designed. The DC outlet to plug this device into the outlet is too low on the baby monitor. When it sits on the table the cord itself hits the table, since it sits lower than the monitor itself. This make the connection come lose and soon we have a loud beep beep telling me the battery is low. It is surely annoying and I am mad I spend so much on this product.

4 out of 5 stars good monitor   October 7, 2008

We initially ordered the monitor because of the vibration feature which we thought would be nice. In actuality if it's clipped to your waistband it can be difficult to feel the vibration at all. It's better if you just stick the receiver in your pocket.

The clarity of sound is good, and we haven't noticed any interference from other electronics or phones. The battery life is decent and with two receivers you can always have one fully charged.

If we had to do it again, I'm not sure we would pay the extra for the vibration feature, but otherwise we are very happy with this monitor.

Tons of static that kept me up at night. Terrible range. Kept turning off and on. I had no faith it would be working when my baby started crying. I would not recommend this product to anyone.
