5 out of 5 stars I am pleased!   April 22, 2008

I had read up a lot about bed rails. Still I wasn't sure which was safe and was not confident about buying any one in particular. So, I finally decided to buy a used "First Years FoldDown Bedrail" just to try out.

This was used on two children before I bought it for my toddler. But feel it still is as good as new and working very well. In fact I transitioned my baby from crib to twin bed with this rail, at 14 mo of age. He is doing very well till date. I just make sure to get to him as soon as I hear him wake on the baby-monitor. He even gets off the bed safely by himself if needed.

I have had this for 4 mo now. Looks like I will keep it till he grows out of rails.

5 out of 5 stars Highly recommended   May 22, 2007

This is a great bedrail. My daughter loves to sleep only in the corners of the bed and this bedrail is sturdy enough to hold her in!

I have thrown this thing more than once trying to put it together! I have never had so much trouble with any of my daughter's other contraptions. I guess I'll have to sic my husband on it.

3 out of 5 stars Quality Issues   December 31, 2006
Claidmaugh (Kansas City, MO USA)
Just bought this from a local Target tonight. Instructions are mediocre, and could be improved - for instance, why is it necessary to insert the rails under the mattress then shorten the rails by a peg? Unless your mattress is made of granite, you could easily get the right width by measuring, then wedging the mattress to the bottom of the rails. The way the instructions are stated you have to simultaneously hold your mattress up far enough to push in the peg with a screwdriver while also constricting the rail to fit into the next closest peg - not easy at all if you're installing without someone to help.

Also, the pegs themselves are of poor quality - one on our assembly would not slide back through the hole until I pulled it out of the rod, straightened, and reinserted it. If I'd left it as it was the assembly could shift with weight, negating the entire reason I purchased the product.

Finally, getting the fabric assembly around the rails was very difficult. The structure must be taut, which explains some of the difficulty - you don't want your child to get caught in loose fabric - but I'm not sure why this part doesn't come assembled from the manufacturer.

Haven't tested the assembled product yet. If there are flaws during use I'll post again.

3 out of 5 stars Not What I Expected   December 31, 2006
hotbiscuitsandsweetmarie (Georgia, USA)
This rail is NOT easy to assemble; it is frustrating, as the directions are poor and the parts do not always fit together perfectly. On top of that, nothing on the box told me it would require assembly! The supporting rails extend underneath the entire width of the mattress, which makes it very cumbersome to install, remove, store, or transport. Once you get through the unclear instructions and actually get it put together, and then have someone help you install the awkwardly long supporting rails, it does function well. However, I decided to go back to my old-style rail.
