Product Description The First Years Hands-Free Gate Extension The First Years Hands-Free Gate Extension makes your Hands Free Gate more versatile. Each extension adds up to 5 inches to the gate. Do no use more than two extensions with each gate.
Editorial Review Many homes feature a potentially troubling combination: curious toddlers plus doorways too wide for standard gates. This extension unit is designed for use with other First Years gates, and can be used to cover areas that gates can't reach. The set includes one five-inch extender unit, which, once installed, is immobile, allowing the gate to open and shut between them or between an extender and the wall. --John Moe

Still not quite the right size November 19, 2008 JenandGidon (Seattle) We have a doorway between the front room and kitchen that must be a non-standard width, because the gate alone is a smidge too small, but when we added the extension, the whole unit wouldn't fit in the doorway. It would be better design if there was an overlap of about 1/2" between the two sizes.
Needed for larger doors November 18, 2008 Christine Shivecharan (Florida) The gate extension is needed unless you have a very small door opening. The gate works great and is very sturdy.
great gate! July 28, 2008 S. Fussell (Clermont, FL United States) This gate is the best one I have ever used. I needed 1 extension for a larger than normal door opening and it works perfectly!
Excellent gate! July 20, 2008 D. W. Klyve (Kenosha, WI USA) This gate extension really does work well; it adds about 6 inches to the First Years Hands Free Gate. We had to use a total of two, which we didn't realize when we first bought it (be sure to carefully read all the lengths of the products). Since we got all the parts, though, the gate has been secure and highly easy to use. Definitely recommended!
Great Extension! June 25, 2008 Matthew T. Wentworth (Milford, PA United States) This extension fits in perfectly and provided exactly the extra amount we needed. It is just small enough that our cats and dog are unable to fit through the gate, but we also have large cats. Not sure how well this would work if more than one extension is needed.
