Amazon.com Product Description Because of its simple "knee-knocker" mechanism, this Hands Free Gate can do exactly what the name implies: be opened without having to use your hands. Any parent occupied with little ones and all of their necessities will quickly recognize this as a huge benefit. To operate, simply press on the pedal with your toes and then bump the knee plate with your knee. Closing is just a nudge in the opposite direction; you will hear a click when the latch has caught, offering peace of mind that it's secure again. | | The convenient foot pedal is easy for adults, but difficult for children, to open. | The pedal, knee plate, and hinges are designed so the gate can swing open from either direction. Even smarter is that the gate is purposely designed as easy-to-open for an adult, yet difficult for children. The gate's vertical bars curb curious toddlers from trying to climb over, are spaced to help prevent painful accidents, and provide ample visibility through to the other side. | | Adjustable pressure mounts don't require screws and won't mark up your walls. | Able to fit in standard doorframes (29" to 34" wide), the all-metal safety gate is a pressure-mount device. Just twist the adjustable bolts at each of the four corners to get a proper, secure fit in your doorways. (If you have wider than standard doors, The First Years sells extension kits separately that can accommodate up to 44-inch wide openings.) It should be noted that this safety gate can be a little unsteady when used at the outer limits of its range, so you may want to consider an extension kit even if using in a standard doorway. Before you buy, there are two things to be aware of. One, the actual opening for parents, kids, and/or pets to walk through is only about 18 inches wide. Two, if you want to use this in a doorway and be able to close the door, the foot pedal sticks out too far to allow this. For use with children up to 24 months.
Product Description Rarely does a mom or dad make it through a day without thinking they could use an extra set of hands. So First Years designed the next best thing -- a safety gate that doesn't require any hands at all! But even though it's simple for an adult to just press on the pedal and walk through, it's too difficult for a baby. The gate fits all standard doorways 29" to 34" wide, and, with use of the Gate Extension Kit (sold separately) will also fit other openings up to 44" wide. The pressure-mounted design won't damage walls or doorways. An audible click lets you know the gate has locked.

misleading description September 5, 2008 William Roussie (western New York state) Although i must admit that this system could conceivably work just fine for a normal doorway, little information is given to "warn" the prospective buyer of the products limitations as to wider doorways. No provision is made for adjusting to a wider doorway and, although the company has "adjusters", they want an additional exorbitant amount for those "adjusters". The result was that i had to swallow a $22 shipping charge to return the item to Amazon. None the less, i do feel fortunate having purchased the item from Amazon which allowed me to return the item with no questions asked. I will be quite a bit more cautious the next purchase and, given the chance, will avoid any purchase from this company.
Great gate September 4, 2008 E. Andersen (California) I have no complaints about this gate - I love it and am getting another one for another room in our house. Being able to step and knock the gate with your knee when you are holding your baby is really helpful. My husband installed it on a standard door frame. You have to follow the instructions to get it to fit snuggly, but once you have it installed properly, it is solid and won't go anywhere.
My 11-month old can open this gate September 3, 2008 S. Aspinwall (Alexandria, Virginia, USA) We installed this gate at the top of our stairs yesterday; today, our 11-month old son opened it and fell down the stairs. He's not hurt, thankfully, but clearly the gate isn't very effective. The gate was properly installed and securely closed, but he was able to open it by standing on the foot pedal while holding onto the top of the gate. The gate itself seems well-constructed and is very easy for my husband and I to use; however, because it's also so easy for our baby to use, we'll be replacing it with a different gate tonight. I can't recommend this gate for installation in critical areas of your home.
Great gate August 15, 2008 S. Bishop (Dataw Island, SC USA) This gate has been great. It is exactly as pictured, easy to assemble and sturdy enough to handle repeated use. My Maltese puppy figured out a way to get through the side openings but a little duct tape fixed that. It keeps my dog confined and allows my 90+ year old mother free access. I wish I had gotten it earlier. Sharon Bishop
I can't imagine a better gate August 13, 2008 E. Erfani This is pretty much the best gate I could conceive of. The pressure mounts are wonderfully sturdy, the design is ingenious and convenient, and for now, anyway, there's no way my baby is getting past it. If there were any improvement to be made, I wish the profile of the bottom section were a little lower. I've tripped over it and stubbed my toe on it. This is a minor complaint, on balance.
