Miserable Travel System. March 26, 2008 K. Miller (Charlotte, NC) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've used this system for 6 months & I have resorted to purchasing a whole new system. I have always loved Graco's strollers, but I think this one is an embarrassment to their name. Below are my main issues. After 6 months the smooth ride has deteriorated. It's not terrible, but I wonder what it will be like after long term use! Pushing the top of the basket drops it down, making quick access in a pinch. After 6 months it drops at the slightest hit. The stroller visor/hood is too high (I'm 5', 4") & blocks my view of the baby. The window is shaded to block the sun, but is too dark to see the baby! My visor does not fold properly. It stuck in the grove & bent the 1st time I opened. Now I literally have to fight to open it. I would just remove it altogether but it is permanently attached to the stroller! The fabric is NOT removable. That's a lot of spot cleaning, which doesn't remove all soils (& my baby has to sit in that?)! The stroller harness is 3 or 5 point. The 5 point harness is so long it's useless. Our baby is longer/heavier than her peers. At the tightest setting the straps are still too big. By the time they fit she won't need them. This stroller isn't really made with younger babies in mind. Without the 5 point harness she bobbles around. Our baby prefers to sit in the stroller (opposed to in the carrier in the stroller). With this stroller we can't safely do so. The one hand opener is awful. It took me 5 months to be able to open it. I read the instruction & even oiled joints but still struggled to open the darn thing. It would open with one hand & a foot but because the basket closes there's no where to really put your foot! The car seat handle is painful to carry. It's not rounded, one side is open. That exposes the hollow center, creating an edge that cuts into my arm. The seat is also on the short side. I understand our baby is long but her feet reached the edge of the seat at 4 months! The seat base fits my mid-sized SUV properly. It is tightened as much as possible, but still moves around quite a bit. I am told all move some but this just doesn't look safe. It is also very high. When I place my baby & carrier in the base I have to tip her sideways to lock her in the base. This horrified me when she was a newborn! I'd like to say the pictures of the Alano, whatever color or pattern, look a lot more contoured & comfortable that what came out of my box! Even the included head positioners are problematic as they too big. By the time the baby's head is large enough to fill it they won't need then! Maybe I'm picky or I got a dud. I'm inclined to think not since the big Baby Chain is now selling it for 1/2 (yes I said 1/2) the original price!
