Excellent, worth the money! October 18, 2008 tracyandherboys (pittsburgh, pa USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This carseat wasn't rated so well by Consumer Reports for nothing! I am a new lover of all products Chicco. Bought it for my 3rd/4th child (had twins and needed an additional car seat) and have been nothing but happy. The infant insert is fantastic - I always put my bigger twin in an older Graco infant seat and his poor little head would always be crooked, even when using an infant head support. My little guy in his Chicco was kept straight. Very sturdy, and easy to adjust straps.
The good, the bad September 23, 2008 H. Divis (Airy Arizona) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I read A LOT of reviews before choosing this carseat for our THIRD child! So many reviews mentioned a problem with their baby sweating in the carseat & I figured it was probably something they mentioned as first time parents with their first carseat. I think that probably most carseats will make your baby's back a little sweaty when they're in the seat for a long trip or day of errands, etc. But no, this carseat has ventilation problems in a big way! My daughter (now 6 months old) gets profusely sweaty in this seat - so much that her clothes are soaking wet on her back (not an exaggeration)! Sometimes when we're on daytrips or traveling she FREAKS OUT! Screaming bloody murder! And it took me a few freak-outs to conclude that it's because she's ridiculously overheated. We'll have to pull over & take her out & let the A/C blow on her back for a few minutes until she cools off before we can drive for a while again (until the next freak out). I'm usually by myself on our daytrips (we live 45 mins from shopping) so my husband didn't truly understand the problem & I didn't think he'd want to buy a new carseat since this one cost so much. But after a family trip last week & having to hear our poor baby screaming miserably in her carseat he understands the reality of the problem & agrees that we can't continue to let her use the seat and he even said it would be cruel. I called Chicco this morning and their customer service was so kind. They wonder if a cotton seat cover will take care of the problem so they're sending me the new cover & canopy free of charge which I really appreciate. I'll have to update later to let you know if it makes a difference, but if you're considering this carseat in the Race color (or any of that fabric type) & will very often have your baby in it for extended periods of time (basically anything more than just some errands around town - our baby does fine with that), I'd go with another seat. Because if the new seat cover doesn't solve the problem, we're out about $200 (the rep implied that they wouldn't refund our money & I don't think we can return it to the store we purchased it from). On the plus side, the base is awesome with the easiest LATCH system ever! I wish our older children's carseats had such a great feature! I've loved everything else about the carseat, but the sweating thing is a pretty big deal.
