best bags for freezing and quick thawing November 29, 2008 L. Hughes (Lakewood, CO United States) I breastfed my first child for nearly a year, and am now breastfeeding my second. I had tried several different types of freezer bags and these were the only ones that never leaked. I searched for slightly larger bags (these hold 5 oz) because my son was drinking 6-7 ounces a feeding but the ones I found leaked during thawing or warming. Medela bags are a great product.
5 oz. capacity is too small November 12, 2008 SB Reader (Santa Barbara, CA) If you are like me and pump more than 5 ounces of milk per breast, these bags are too small. Although they can hold slightly more than 5 ounces, it is not recommended to exceed 5 ounces in order to leave enough room for expansion when the milk freezes. Rather than using two and sometimes three Medela bags, I find it easier to pump into the bottles and then pour the milk from both bottles into one larger storage bag (Lansinoh and First Years make larger bags).
Worth the money! October 30, 2008 J. Skeen (San Diego, CA USA) Great product!! When I pumped for my first child, I used a bottle to collect, then transferred to a ziplock baggie. This is SO much easier and more efficient. It has a handy method to attach to the pump, a place to write the collection date, and stands up for storage in the fridge. No more leaks and wasted milk! I'm getting more soon!
Good product for storage October 2, 2008 P. Rizzo (Brazil) Very convenient, it can be attached to the breastmilk extractor machine making your life lots easier.
Miss the twist tie bags! September 25, 2008 Marie Martin (San Jose, CA United States) I have the Medela Pump in Style, and with my first son, I used the Medela storage bags with the twist ties. These were perfect! No storage problems, no leak problems. With my second son, I couldn't find the twist tie storage bags anywhere (stopped making them?) and instead found these bags. I have had nothing but problems! The tape does not hold very well, it is hard to tell if the ziploc is closed all the way (so I end up checking it at least five times before storing it, and another two times before warming it up), and I can't tell you how many times I have had these bags leak! With the old bags, if we accidentally dropped one on our hardwood floor, no problem. These bags explode like a cheap water balloon! And if they are frozen and you drop them, you can also create a leak which you won't even know about until you thaw the bag out. I wrote to Medela expressing my displeasure with their product, and the response I received was to call customer service with my problem. Thanks, but no thanks. I'm glad I'm almost done nursing.
