Editorial Review The most important difference between the Medela Pump in Style Advanced model and the Original is that the Advanced pump includes a pretty remarkable feature that actually mimics a baby's nursing rhythm by pumping in two distinct modes: let-down and expression. In the first few moments of nursing, babies initiate faster milk flow by suckling rapidly. After the flow is established, baby switches to slower, deeper suckling for maximum milk flow in less time. The "Natural Expression" system simulates this two-stage pattern for a highly efficient, effective pumping experience. In other ways the pump is similar to the also first-rate Original: a stylish and professional looking black shoulder bag houses the pump with adjustable speed and vacuum control, along with battery pack, AC adapter, four bottles with lids, bottle stands, "PersonalFit" breastshields, removable cooler carrier with ice packs, bottle holder, extra storage pockets, and a built-in picture frame for a photo of your pride and joy. The advanced model also includes CSF breastmilk bags, a padded carrier case for the battery pack, and a removable motor bag. --Emilie Coulter

Fabulous Pump! July 9, 2008 Jenny T. (New York, NY United States) I am exclusively pumping at this point (8x a day) and LOVE the Medela PISA! It's easy to use and clean - and works like a charm. It's also nice and portable. Highly recommend. The bottles are BPA-free also.
Didn't care for this pump May 22, 2008 Aldebaran (Austin, TXbaby YEAH) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was using the Medela Pump in Style for about a month and grew tired of it. It hurt, it was LOUD, and then I found out that it's not a closed system, meaning that the hoses can build up condensation that can mildew and contaminate the milk I was pumping! Eew! I eventually bought an Avent Isis Duo and love it. The good hing about this pump is that you can use a pumping bra and the containers do not contain BPA. I never got comfortable with the suction levels. I had to replace the faceplate because it kept popping off. Doesn't seem to be designed very well.
Worth the Money... April 21, 2008 Isabella's Mom (Tennessee) This pump helped me through a period of low milk supply due to an infection I was battling from my c-section incision. Although the lactation nurses said I would need to rent a hospital pump, this one pulled me through just fine. It's really not that expensive when you consider the price of formula. One month of formula averages around $120. It travels well and is inconspicuous. It's fairly quiet too.
BFFF (breast-feeding friends forever) April 7, 2008 Jami K. Lewis (Oklahoma City, OK United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am a baby doctor. The Pump in Style Advance is the best pump on the market unless you can rent a hospital grade one. If you have a bad pump you may be more frustrated and quit BF. It is a good investment, as it can re-sell for a good price when you're finished, although it is not recommended by the company to do this. Secretions do not under ordinary circumstances enter the machinery of the pump, but I would recommend fresh tubing, phalanges, collection receptacles, etc between users (everything between you and the pump. This is the pump all of our pediatric residents use and all of our lactation consultants recommend. The pumping action is much more effective and comfortable than the original. If you work in a hospital you may have access to a Medela hospital grade pump at work which is even better! But unless you can take it home, you will want one of these, too.
Why did I wait?! March 29, 2008 Melissa Sloan This was by far the best investment I have made for the benefit of our child. I had purchased a manual pump, messed around with it for three months, and become increasingly frustrated with it. As a working mom, I need something that gets the job done and gets me back to my desk quickly. I shyed away from the Medela pumps solely based on the price points. Do not let that stop you. This is not a frivolous purchase. It is money well spent.
