Product Description Marrying the new mother’s need to connect and the community spirit of crafting—think reading groups, Stitch ’n Bitch knitting circles, and, of course, playgroups—is The Crafty Mamas, a unique idea in DIY and a full-color guide filled with baby-related projects, essential techniques, tips on how to form a group, wisdom, inspiration, and camaraderie.
Abby Pecoriello launched the first-ever crafting club for new moms during her maternity leave. The concept proved to be such a hit that in the two and a half years since, she’s led hundreds of sold-out Crafty Mamas classes throughout New York City. Now, in this spirited, witty book, she provides the how-to for women to form their own Crafty Mamas groups, from learning the best ways to reach out to other new moms in the area, to the nuts-and-bolts of running the group: setting a budget, buying tools and supplies, choosing a venue, and more. Then come the projects—50 hip, no-sew craft ideas that are inexpensive and easy to make, and will delight moms and babies alike: “Light the Night” nightlight, No-Sew Swanky Blankies, The Poncherello, Photo Au Go Go Bracelets, Hip Purses, Insta-Bibs, Peek-a-Books, Photo Bragnets. What about the Crafty Daddy?! November 13, 2008 CASTILHO (Brazil/NYC) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
(Insert Man's voice) I just looked thru the book and have come to the conclusion that men can use it as well! How grand is that? In behalf of all men with time, kids or a stick of glue, thank you Crafty Mama!
Fun, fun, fun! November 11, 2008 Serine E. Givens 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am so excited to have this book finally. It is great for both the advanced and novice crafter. The fleece projects are worlds of fun, especially if sewing isn't your strong suit, the one adopted for the Boppy pillow is cute and great for young hands, the Insta-Bib clip is clever, cute and simple. The projects are really various and a little something for everyone. Also, something I loved in this book were the resources in the front to connect with other crafty moms. I was feeling a little isolated when I picked up this book and now Abby Pecoriello has provided not only fun projects, but places to meet other parents to make them with! Brilliant!
This "Crafty Mama" applauds Abby Pecoriello! September 22, 2008 B. A. Ganan (Chicago, IL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is fabulous! Whether you're super crafty, or just so-so, everyone will love this book. Each activity is rated according to the cost, the time, the skill, and "how ga-ga they'll go." It's very cute and helpful to new mothers who prioritize everything! There is quite a range of craft ideas and each one is super-cute. I highly recommend Crafty Mama.
Creative Crafts Rocks! August 18, 2008 Blk (Chicago, IL) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book is fantastic. I saw the author on the local news and she seemed brillant, crafty and fabulously fun. The ideas are easy to do and adorable. A great gift for mom and baby!
Love this book! August 17, 2008 R. S. Gerstung (Chicago, IL) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I got this book after seeing the author on a news show. She was so freaking cute I wanted to fold her up and put her in my pocket. Then I got the book which is even cuter. It's so well written, the projects are adorable and the best part is that the crafts are EASY. (I mean, what mom, no matter how crafty, can devote doing a project that takes longer than 2 hours?) The creativeness of this book and the obvious love that the author has for crafts (and kids!) comes through on every page. I just found my staple baby shower gift!
