2 out of 5 stars difficult to tighten straps   November 24, 2008

I bought this car seat in April 2008 for my then 14-month old son. I liked the design and the cup holders. My son seems really comfortable in it and loves to get his own sippy cup from the cup holder and toys from the other side. However, the straps are EXTREMELY difficult to tighten snuggly. My husband refuses to use this car seat (he's spoiled by the Britax Roundabout in his car). I'm used to it but still find it too much of a hassle so am now investigating car seats with straps that are easier to adjust and tighten.

5 out of 5 stars Only carseat that will fit in the back of a extended cab pickup   September 10, 2008

We bought this carseat after a long search and talking to several people at baby stores. It is the only seat that we have found at any price that will actually fit in on the back bench seat of a extended cab pickup truck.

We don't use it very much, only a few times a week, but it has held up well over about 2 years or so, including shipping it on an airline (and we all know how well THOSE guys like to treat things). Haven't had a problem yet.

And honestly, even if we did I would be forced to buy it again because, like I said, it is the only one that fits properly in the back of the truck...

3 out of 5 stars Functionally good, but the styrofoam padding breaks easily   August 21, 2008

I've had the Graco Cargo Platinum for about 2 years now - got it for my son when he was about 2-1/2.

Pluses:
Comfy for the child
Removable cup/toy holders.
Reasonable cost
Lightweight
Decent looking
Cover comes off so it can be cleaned easily.
Buckles operate & adjust easily.

Minus:
We've had to replace the styrofoam padding twice on this seat because it got broken, probably from flexing as the child climbs in and gets in position. Behind the cover is a U-shaped piece of styrofoam (um, "EPS energy absorbing foam"), covering the back and wrapping the around the side bolsters. So when the child grabs onto the sides they may flex and break. The replacement cost from Graco is reasonable - about $15 - but it seems that such a safety-related part shouldn't be so fragile in normal usage.

5 out of 5 stars I highly recommend this seat....   July 10, 2008

My children have just outgrown this seat (height wise not weight wise). I purchased 2 of this style seat in 2004 and am so pleased with the quality and durability, I had to write a review. Back in 2004, I researched this seat in consumer reports and it received a great rating back then. I am glad to see that Graco is continuing to offer this seat now. You won't be dissapointed.

My children were very comfortable and I felt they were safe and secure. I liked how high the sides come up for when they fell asleep. It supported their head and helped to prevent the head bob. I used the snooze bar all the time. It gave the seat just enough recline to be extra comfortable. The cup holder and basket were extremely handy.

I am passing these seats on to a relative because they are in great condition and have a ton of life left in them. I just cleaned them up once again. I take it completely apart. I washed the cushion section in the washing machine (don't put it in the dryer). It came out like new. I hand washed everything else. It is also easy to put back together. I must say after all these years it looks like new. I am sorry to see them go.

Thank you Graco for developing a great product.

By the way, I just purchased the Graco backless turbo booster seats to replace these seats. My children really like these too.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent design   June 16, 2008

We bought two of these seats for our sons and are very pleased with them.
The seats are well padded and soft and good for long drives which was part of our decision to buy this seat. Our 3 year old's first response was "I like it!"

Installation of both seats was easy and quick. The straps mechanisms are well made and user friendly and only needed simple firm pulls to tighten down. Both seats were in and snug in less time than it took to put one of our old Cosco seats in and are more firm too.

The accessory cups that came with our Sydney model fit securely in place and will not fall off. There is also a foot that can be set during installation to change the pitch of the seat for more reclined or upright seating.

The only downside is we were hoping for a narrower seats so we could install three seats together in our mid-size station wagon. The base is narrow, but the shoulders are too wide to make that feasible. As kids must stay in car seat to much older ages and fuel efficiency requirements are making car's smaller it is time that the child seat manufacturers make width a serious design consideration. Aside from that this would have been a 5 start rating.
