3 out of 5 stars Okay, not great.   December 31, 2008
S. Stephens (Bklyn, NY)
As a first time mom, I've done lots of research on the kind of bottle I wanted to use for my little one. I knew I would be breastfeeding most of the time so I wanted to get something that would not create nipple confusion with the baby. We used this bottle for the first 10 days of her life but noticed as she began to take more milk, I express breast milk, she would get gassy and fussy, literally screaming and arching her back in pain. We tried tightening the bottle, loosening the bottle, holding it at different angles, but nothing worked. We've since switched bottles and baby seems much happier for it. I really, really wanted to like this bottle but...

1 out of 5 stars My daughter prefers the Breastflow   December 19, 2008
superfrodo (Wooster, OH)
The Adiri claims to be a "nurser" bottle that simulates breastfeeding, but I beg to differ!!

My family recently took a road trip and realized that we had the wrong size nipples for my breastfed daughter's bottle. (She normally uses The First Years Breastflow bottle.) In an act of desperation, we stopped at the nearest Babies 'R' Us to buy the correct nipples, since that is the only store I know of that carries the bottle. But this particular store didn't carry the Breastflow, so we opted for the Adiri instead, since its package claims that it feels like a real breast. However, this claim is very misleading. The Adiri bottle is shaped much like a real breast, but it does not perform like a real breast.

In order to breastfeed, a baby must open their mouth wide and place it over the larger part of the breast, not just on the nipple. The Adiri did not allow my daughter to do this, and as a result she ended up frustrated with milk dribbling out of the bottle and down her chin. In my opinion, The First Years Breastflow bottle is a much better bottle for breastfed babies if only because it allows the baby to put their mouth over the large part of the nipple, making the transition from breast to bottle much easier for both mom and baby. I would never use another bottle, and it's a shame that more stores do not carry them.

5 out of 5 stars not perfect, but best I've found; only bottle allowed for my DD   December 16, 2008
casual.remark (Texas)
My firstborn was never able to nurse successfully, so the "oh, it'll be fine" "there's no such thing as nipple confusion" "that's weird" advice/comments regarding our feeding choices for my exclusively-breastfed second child fell on angrily-deaf ears.
This bottle is not perfect, but it is the only one I will allow my DD to use (and she was only allowed a trial after 6 months). She didn't take to it at first (with my pumped breastmilk), but a few months later my husband tried again & she gobbled down the whole amount like a champ. Then as soon as I got home, she nursed just fine with no problems.
Putting milk into the bottle is not the easiest, but it's worth it for the peace of mind that we did everything we could to prevent breastfeeding difficulties!

2 out of 5 stars Leaks, drips too fast for newborn   December 5, 2008
C. M. Thompson (New York, NY)
The bottle gets two stars for BPA free and inventive design, but the bottle leaks from both ends! It won't travel or store without leaking. Also, it drips when nipple down, which a good bottle should not do, so that the baby may regulate the flow of milk with her own suckle. It's unusable. Too bad.

2 out of 5 stars Leaks   November 23, 2008
H. Brown (Dallas, TX)
This bottle leaks. If that doesn't bother you then this bottle is good for preventing nipple confusion. But I had 3 friends give me their bottles since their babies wouldn't take it. They all leak my precious breast milk.
