good value for a good product August 19, 2008 Rezarta Dyryzi-Zotaj (New York, NY) I got this as a substitute for the crib rail since my son started swinging from the crib rail even though I had it set at the highest. SInce his is a convertible crib/toddler/day bed it made sense to get a guard rail and he absolutely loves it. I release it during the day so he has access to his bed even when it is not nap time so he can play with his toys. He uses the rail's frame to climb on the bed and overall I'm happy I got it.
good price * safe rail * PIA install July 22, 2008 SS (Indy) The rail seems to be a good, safe, product and it has a snug fit. The hinge is a little flimsy and it is hard to snap up on a full size bed - you have to push and put some presure on it. Putting the rail together was easy enough - but WOW - getting this on the bed - by myself was HARD. I am pretty good at putting stuff together and - this was really a pain- you had to lift up the bed and lay these straps accross the box spring and then place the top bed back on the box spring without moving the straps or pushing or sliding them off. I really can't believe I got this on the bed. But - once on - and in the upright position - it does seem to be a good product. We have a safety first secure lock - which I love - but is no longer available - some one is selling it for 145.00 - which is silly - cause it was about 30.00 max - so we bought this for 20.00 and aside from the getting it on - we will be happy with it. I would use 2 people to get this on the bed - save the trouble!
It does the trick, though a bit tricky April 7, 2008 Michael R. Hanson (Toad Wallow, WY) For the most part, this bed rail does what we need it to do--it keeps our infant daughter from rolling off the bed (though she doesn't roll much yet). Here are its drawbacks: 1) The fabric is very tight, so it is hard to extend the parts and lock them into place. 2) The plastic pieces attached to the webbing that runs underneath the mattress to hold the rail snug against the bed sometimes slip and end up under the mattress. 3) There are about a million warnings on the rail that are not on the box including "don't use with children under X age" (I forgot the age).
Can do better. February 28, 2008 Bernadine Wedgie (Northampton, PA) They were easy to install, but are very difficult to put up and down. Awkward. They aren't all that sturdy either.
Perfect for my son's captain's bed February 7, 2008 M. Deforge 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
After much research looking at products in stores, and reading reviews on Amazon and other sites, I settled on this item for my 3-year old's captain's bed. Like other reviewers commented, many of the bedrails out there state that you need a boxspring to use - although technically you do need something flat to lie under this item, I got around that problem by placing a flat piece of plywood on top of the wood slats that his mattress sits on. This supports the "arms" of the bedrail, and the weight of the mattress basically holds in in place quite nicely (even without the included mattress straps). As far as durability, my son is not easy on anything, and it has managed to hold up to his abuse (leaning against, occasional climbing, etc). It is also much taller than any of the others I looked at, so I feel secure that it will keep him from falling out of bed. The color is also nice, and I have gotten a lot of compliments on it. The only complaint I have is that the fabric that is wrapped around the frame was so tight that it took some serious pulling to get the mechanisms to "lock in" and prevent it from collapsing when first setting it up. Also, since I can't really fold down the sides (this has more to do with the captain's bed frame being higher than the bottom of the unit), changing sheets is a serious workout! I would highly recommend this item to anyone - especially for use with a captain's bed as described.
